When you water, water deeply

You’d be surprised how little the water actually penetrates beyond the first few millimetres of soil from a quick watering or an even a rain shower. Less frequent but deeper watering gets the water right down into the ground where it’s needed most. And this helps prevent plants from developing shallow root systems, which ultimately makes them more susceptible to suffering and dying when water does become more scarce. If your time in the garden is limited, then an automatic irrigation system may be the best solution for you.
