If you don’t want to spend hours gardening, have low maintenance plants

It sounds obvious, but all too often people plant things that simple aren’t appropriate for their gardens. But, you don’t need to let garden maintenance put you off having the garden you desire. Design your garden to suit your lifestyle and limit the number of plants and features to reflect the amount of time you have to spend on maintaining your garden. It’s perfectly possible to create an attractive garden suited to your needs and filled with the features you want, but which requires minimal maintenance. That’s where a good designer comes in, who can guide you through the choice of layout, landscaping materials and planting scheme in order to create a stunning garden that can stay looking good without a lot of hard work. If you don’t want to spend time weeding, cutting back and tending to the borders, simplify the scheme with easy-care plants, plant them close together, include low spreading groundcover plants and spread a mulch of chipped bark or gravel over the borders to cover bare soil, preserve moisture and prevent weeds. Slow-growing evergreen shrubs are another great low effort way to create strong year-round visual interest.
